Setting the Scene: Sunflowers, Drinks, and a Whole Lot of Magic

One of my favorite parts of being a creative portrait photographer is dreaming up little worlds for my clients to step into. For my last shoot, I wanted something simple but full of warmth, something that felt like a fun summer afternoon with just a touch of whimsy.

So, I packed up everything and I mean EVERYTHING.
A white blanket to stretch across the green grass, fresh sunflowers, chilled drinks, and a small wooden table draped in lace to give it that soft vintage vibe.

As I set up, the sun poured across the backyard and the breeze kept tugging at the edges of the blanket. I crouched down to adjust the flowers, double‑checked the placement of the drinks, and stepped back to take it all in. It felt like setting the stage for a story before the actors arrive.

And honestly, this is the part I love the most.
Long before I press the shutter, I get to create a space where someone feels inspired, playful, and completely free to be themselves.

It’s not always perfect. There’s hauling props through the grass, bags of supplies everywhere, and bags full of things I might use. But then you see the scene come together—the colors, the textures, the way the light hits just right and you know it’s going to be worth it.

This setup wasn’t just about pretty props.
It was about creating a feeling: relaxed, joyful, and full of little details that make a photo feel alive. And when my client stepped into that space, something lit up in her and that’s the magic I chase every time.
